Primary Education
5 to 11 years
The Primary stage begins in Year 1 and continues until Year 6. We follow the British national curriculum in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5, 6), focusing on the core subjects: Literacy, Mathematics and Science. Learning continues to progress naturally from the Foundation Stage with a gradual shift from play-based education to more formal learning, with an emphasis on inquiry and independent learning. The work is differentiated to help each child reach their full potential with the help of their tutors and support teachers
Welcome from the Head of Primary
It is my pleasure on behalf of myself and the Primary team, to extend a warm welcome to The School of Cordoba. Our friendly, dedicated and qualified staff endeavour to offer an outstanding education and provide a happy, supportive and welcoming atmosphere for all pupils. Our teachers are committed to ensuring that all children thrive, both academically and personally and develop into confident, independent and caring pupils.
At the heart of our teaching is an educational philosophy based on values-centred learning. As educators we understand children learn best when they feel safe and supported in the school environment by both their teachers and their peers. Development of skills such as; patience, tolerance, kindness, and caring for our school community are central to all our lessons.
The Primary curriculum is a broad one and allows a cross-curricular approach to learning that helps students study topics in greater depth. We encourage an enquiry and practical based learning that gives our students the opportunity to learn in a way that is relevant to their daily lives and helps them to develop both skills of independent study and working as part of a team. Children are taught from a young age to become independent thinkers and develop resilience and problem-solving skills.
It is my aim to ensure that each child during their time in primary can achieve progress to their full academic potential by; setting high personal and academic standards, providing inspirational and stimulating teaching and differentiated learning experiences, providing excellent pastoral care and diverse and purposeful enrichment opportunities and experiences.
At the British School of Cordoba, our enthusiastic teachers excel at providing a strong, caring relationship with children and providing stimulating and creative lessons that invite a lifelong love of learning.

Our Curriculum
The primary Department of the British College of Córdoba offers an extensive and balanced curriculum that is based on the knowledge, understanding and skills that all pupils need, whatever their initial basis. The curriculum of our school incorporates the statutory requirements of the England National Curriculum 2014. It also integrates experiences and opportunities to better acquire learning and meet the needs of our pupils. The aim of the curriculum is for pupils to have the skills needed to be successful, independent and motivated learners, and to be ready to move to the next level.
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils and their understanding of the core values of society are intertwined in the curriculum, as part of our Values Based Education method.
